Happens around here too.  The last I recall was the Funny River Fire in 2014
and I think they finally got all the hot spots out the next year.  Fire gets
down in the peat and smolders, all winter.  As an aside, out by Sutton there is
or was a coal mine fire of some sort smoldering.
