Not sure if this will work or not but:
I would create a new directory (or use your temp directory or whatever)
and move into it. Now launch qedit from there with qedit
X:\path\filename (where this is the path to the file you are opening).
I would expect if qedit doesn't use the tmp\temp variable and it doesn't
have one of it's own then it would use the directory from which it was
opened (or the program directory) rather than the location it is opening
(i.e. the cdrom). Don't know this for certain but is what I would expect.
