The USSR most likely would have self-destructed eventually
even without Ronaldus Magnus -- but when? Reagan forced the
Soviets to spend more than they could afford on weapons,
hastening their collapse and possibly sparing us at least
one more "limited war" somewhere around the world. The
end of the USSR also brought an end to most of the danger
from Cuba, since Castro never had the means to manufacture
(and certainly not develop) most of its military technology.
OTOH, the Soviet Union's fall has also benefitted China;
and that may not be such a good thing for us.
