RS> The first attempt at getting the QWK, initially started great, no sign
RS> of the galloping RXD display. Bet you werent showing MR flashings at
RS> your end. A little slow, high 1300s instead of high 1600s but thats a
RS> detail. Might even mean you were running floating serial port speed
 RS> instead of 19200.

Floating at 14400? Not possible I'm afraid! :-)

RS> But at around 100K on a 180K QWK, burst of errors shown in the Zmodem
RS> status display. Then just nothing from your end more data wise at all.
RS> Not clear why my timeout didnt restart it eventually.

On my non-existant Binkley display, it said "resending from
92000" or something, and then went 92xxx where xxx rapidly changed.
Seems like it was resending resends or something. I have another option on
this one, which is to install Binkley Extended Edition, which is 32-bit.

RS> I manually aborted that, started another download. This time at about
RS> the same spot, again a burst of Zmodem errors. Not completely
RS> confident it was in precisely the same spot in the same file but it
RS> wouldnt have been too far off. This time it recovered and completed
RS> tho. Still a bit low thruput wise but much better than before the
 RS> modem hardware mods.

You'll be pleased to know that I'm as frustrated as you about these shoddy
transfer rates and shoddy transmission quality.

RS> Likely the flaky initial speed connects at 6+pm were just your config
RS> of the modem. In other words the init string type settings. Which you
RS> fiddled with between my first batch of calls and the last one 2 hours
 RS> later.

Well spotted!

RS> The PERSONAL.NDX has been fixed in the QWKs too.

Nothing I changed. I tested the change (running max through fh) with Paul
Markham and was not successful. It did start max without a problem, but it
couldn't find the archiver (whether I started the archiver with fh or
not!). So I'm back to Max, followed by Max calling fh to do the pkzip.

RS> I wont call again this pm, will call tomorrow before 8 am unless
RS> something gets stuffed at this end.

Although I poll at 5:45, I have previously had problems getting my stuff
transferred, so needed to repoll when I woke up this morning. Not too
reliable yet I'm afraid! BFN.

Paul
