Hello Alan,

AI> It's not so easy to get into the US from Canada since 911.

Is it? I cross the USA/Canada border a couple of times a year and never been
extremely bothered by anyone.

AI> The last time
AI> I made the trip we (my wife, two kids and I) spent 45 minites sitting in
AI> the border office while my van was searched. That must have been 10 years
AI> ago and I haven't made the trip since.

I have a Ford F150 pick-up truck with an extended cab. That is to say, I pay
for it, but it is in my Montana friend's name as it is easier on the insurance
to have it owned by an American than by a non-resident.

When I'm there and I use it, my friend scans his US pasport and driver's
license on a sheet of paper and handwrites that I'm entitled to use the vehicle
and even take it across the border ito Canada. If I don't have that
declaration, they'll put the pick-up truck on the side the road for 30 minutes
to an hour to establish that the vehicle wasn't stolen incl. phoning the owner.
With the written declaration all that isn't necesaary.

Over the year my friend parks the vehicle and uses it as his own whenever he
feels like it, but when I'm there, it's there for me. That's the deal, it's
called "win-win".
