Unless it starts to grow so far that he can't open and close his beak
correctly, I'd say 'don't trim it'. There is supposed to be a line near
the tip where the beak flakes off--it peels like fingernail layers as a
result of the natural wear from chewing. The end may become quite
sharp--this is also natural. If the end is TOO sharp, you might consider
gently filing it with a nail file or 'artificial nails shaper' just
enough to dull the point.
But unless his beak is WAY too long, I personally believe that trimming
is more hazardous than it's worth. If cut incorrectly, it may grow back
crooked, bleed from the inner quick layers, or even fall off entirely.
Give McGee some HARD toys--wood, lava rocks, cement perches, Brazil
nuts--things that will challenge his beak. These will help keep it at a
proper length, and may even dull that sharp point.
