| subject: | Re: Hard drive woes |
The WD drive was set correctly, and as CS 1 with maxtor as CS 2 it
worked fine for a couple months, then it's as if the maxtor just slowly
melted away. It gave me enough time to back up what was important to
keep, then would no longer work. Except when I used the maxtor powermax
software to test it, it showed no errors at all. I then traded the
maxtor for the DVD/rw and the WD drive with the dvdrw are running fine
with no problems. I installed the maxtor drive by itself on a new 80
wire cable, still with the same problems. The replacement maxtor
behaves the same way. Only after I install it on a 40 wire cable does
it become useable.
I was concerned as hard drives become larger and faster, they would
become less reliable. Maybe it's rather becoming true.
