Yes, from the tests Ed and you have conducted that is apparently the
case, even though he sees the proper sign when he writes it.

I noted that.

Today I'm very happy I didn't convert to Linux even though I have a
couple if intallation CD's. The accented (umlaut) charaters are
essential to most european languages and they are all in the high ASCII
character table.
