Whay not change it to simply say that it has evolved to thousands of
nodes... a general term that doesn't require an exact count?

McDonalds used to have their signs read "over 10 million
served"... then "over 100 million served", and upward and
etc. ... it now says "billions and billions served"...

Since it's creation, FidoNet has served tens of thousands of nodes, and
uncountable numbers of people who have had public access to it.  Reflect
that.  Think of it... at one time upwards of 30,000 nodes... many BBS's
with userbases exeeding 100 regular callers in the heyday, some only 10 or
20... think about it... that's ALOT of people.
