Hello Sheila,
We were discussing hiring.....
SK>Hmm. Interesting. Well, then I don't know what else to think except that
>there is age discrimination going on? (I didn't think you were that old,
>though?)
Well I doubt if it is age discrimination since my age doesn't go on my
resume and I don't look as old as I really am. Most people think I am in
my early thirties but I am really 47. I should be looking pretty good
right now as I just lost over 30 pounds (since January) ;) !
Why else would the schools prefer to hire fresh-out-of college
>grads, if they are as expensive and as qualified as you? Actually, they
>are less qualified, I would think. Don't you have more classroom
>experience than the typical grad (by virtue of substituting , etc...)
There is a lot of nepotism going on for one thing. For another, the
current hiring superintendent seems to favour new grads - the rumour is
especially if they are young and pretty. (However that is only a
rumour.) Many feel that as soon as he retires some fair hiring may
commence.
I had a friend who recently went to visit Vancouver (B.C.) and checked
out the hiring situation. He was told that they give first chance to
their substitute teachers. Many other boards hire this way. My board,
though more than fair in my things falls down in this area. :(
Well, my interview to stay on the Approved For Hiring list is on
Wednesday at 6:40 - be thinking of me then. :)
- Ruth
SK>Well, hang in there. I hope you get hired for a permanent,
full-time
>position soon.
