| subject: | Hard drive woes |
I purchase a Maxtor 80 gig hard drive back in December. Worked great for a couple months. The first 40 gigs I had partitioned as JFS using ECS1.1 and Danis506 driver (1.67), and the last half had Linux installed. It was slaved to my 40 gig WD drive. Suddenly it seemed to have heat related errors, as it would work fine for about 20 minutes to half an hour, then labor and give read errors. Using Maxblast diagnostics, it passed every test. I still exchanged it under warrenty, and installed it as the only drive on IDE 1.The replacement would not report size correctly until I used Maxblast to set it up. Then using LVM, I deleted all the partitions, then created a new volume as JFS. LVM allowed me to set up without rebooting, I then was able to read/write to the Maxtor drive... until I rebooted. I then created a fat16, hpfs, and jfs partitions. The next boot, hpfsmini trapped and I could not start ECS. I then used Maxblast to clean and create one big fat32 partition. Windows uses this fine. I then volumized it in ECS, rebooted, and the drive letter dissappeared and the drive is unuseable in ECS. (I have fat32.ifs working) Is there something I can do, such as tweaking the dani driver to get this drive working in os2? I have the K7TH-A motherboard with via 686 chipset, ATA-100 eide. Using the 80 wire cables with all drives set as CS. Franklin __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo!
