I got it too, and I have done something with it.  As you pointed out
the cdrom has both the patches and an installation so if you lose you HD
you can install, 10.0a straight (with- out first installing 10.0.)  For
those of you that are curious, the cd looks EXACTLY as the first one.
(This leads me to conclude they want you to replace the old cd.)
