Stephane,
SB> There is no config.sys for DOS and Windows 3.1 objects in OS/2.
Well, not exactly - but I get your point.
SB> Rather, the config.sys for these objects is implemented as
SB> a list of settings under the DOS or Win-OS2 settings pushbuttons.
SB> So, if you made changes to that 'config.sys', you wouldn't have
SB> to reboot in order for these changes to become effective.
As you previously pointed out, these are not changes to config.sys - they are
changes to the DOS_DEVICE settings in the DOS_PROPERTIES area of the settings
notebook. They apply only to one specific object. However, such changes ARE
NOT changes to CONFIG.SYS - i.e. VIRTUAL MACHINE != SYSTEM.
OTOH, the statement I responded to said you needn't reboot after changing
CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT. *ONE* of those is correct!
SB> However, the config.sys that is in the root directory of
SB> the OS/2 boot drive does require a reboot in order for the
SB> changes to become effective.
Then we agree! I guess my point was (and still is) that if you make changes
to CONFIG.SYS you must reboot before those changes are implemented. That's a
fact!
SB> However, these changes apply to OS/2, or to all DOS and Windows
SB> applications.
Just as it should be... just as it is with DOS, Windows, etc - they become
the defaults.
