KH>I need some help. My daughter's pre-school teacher wants me to start
>coming in about once a month to teach the class to do craft-stuff. I
>have a VERY limited number of projects that can be done by the 3-4 year
>old age group. Does anyone have some ideas for craft projects
>appropriate for that age group that requires few and simple materials?
>I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.
KH>My first project is tenatively scheduled for Friday, May 16. I would
>like to do something for Mom since it is right after Mother's Day.
>Something "spring-y" would be nice.
Have them tear little bits of construction paper scraps and put them
in bags one day then the next day take some paper plates add some glue
and the bits of paper and you have a flower. Add a green strip of paper
for a stem and let them cut a few leaves.
Felt pens and stamps work to decorate small clay pots with an adult
writing a "Happy Mothers day" Or "Happy Gardening" message on it. If you
really want involved, you could fill the pots with a little dirt and a
few seeds.
Draw daffodil shapes on yellow or white paper, let the kids cut them
out. Take a small circle of orange tissue paper and put the center thru
a small hole in the middle of the "flower then add scrapes of green
paper for stems. Or draw shapes of tulips in various colors and let the
kids cut them out and add scrap stems.
Add a few small beans or dried peas to some small balloons (water
balloons work well) and blow them up. Tear news papers into strips, mix
some Elmers glue and water (about half and half) and dip the strips into
the glue and use to cover balloons adding a "Handle" either using folded
strips of newspaper or a short dowel. I suggest having meat trays or
paper plates with the childrens name on them to put them on let them dry
over night, then the next time they can use Poster paints to color their
Maracas (before they paint them, take a long needle and poke it into the
newspaper to POP the balloon inside) If you leave the handles and the
beans out you could also cut small holes in them after they dry and
while the kids are not around and add a little toy (when we did this at
our pre-school, the teacher added little plastic dinosaurs into the
Dinosaur eggs.) and patch the holes up with a little more news paper and
glue. You can have Easter eggs, Christmas ornaments or whatever. Any
size balloon to get the effect you want.
Take some pine cones paint with glue then sprinkle glitter over them,
tie a ribbon around the bottom and you have an ornament for a Christmas
tree.
This should give you some ideas to start with, if you need more let me
know. I'll bug my daughters pre school teacher for more ideas for you.
She usually does a new crafty thing every week or two with the kids.
