My point was that some problems can be solved only in the kernel or
os2ldr, and the problems IBM can be interested in solving via such
changes are directly limited to Intel CPUs & chipsets. Fixes via the
kernel that work in AMD and other chipsets are indirect or accidental.
IBM doesn't care about OS/2, and they care even less about AMD.

Technical benefits, of course. Significant benefits in context of gross
GHz overkill, no way. It really doesn't matter whether it takes 1
nanosecond to kill a gnat, or 2. OTOH, when you put an additional device
in a PCI slot and OS/2 won't boot any more, it matters a lot.
