In EZYCFG - MAIL AREAS - MISCELLANEOUS do you have something like:

 Usable Message Areas   :  1536 of XXXXX
 Usable Message Groups  : 32
 Real Name Kludge Line  : Yes
 Quote String           :  !>
>External Editor        : *C /C *M C:\EZY\TIDE.EXE -N*N
>Old Style MSGTMP       : No
 Show Full Messages     : No
 Write messages to Self : Yes

The two highlighted lines are the most important for Tide to work
correctly.
