That's the kind of tactic where they would have an assembler operation
that used to leave some set flag pattern and register values alone but
then suddenly at the next version the flags and registers are
corrupted. That's nice and vexing if your $10,000 system used the old
op before they changed it without notice and the hardware comes to a
grinding halt. B.A.S.T.A.R.S.S.S.S.S...
