I'd like to jump in here with a couple comments if this is allowed.
I am a fanicer I guess. We have barred rock as the primary layers with a
couple white rock thrown in for color! And oh yes one rhode island red as
well. Feeding far to many but do enjoy the fresh eggs and I find the feed
dealers pleasant folks to chat with !!.
We also have roller piegons and a few of the XL D1 quail that breed and
lay at 6 weeks of age. And then there are the Ducks. Pekings and Kahki
Campell as well as call ducks of several colors. I really enjoy them as they
start "talking to you" as soon as they see you coming. Also some wood ducks.
A few bantys and a pair of turkeys round out the yard that is a lot of
pleasure to me here on this small Ark farm.(Please no remarks about the thing
in the white house--I tend to get viloently sick at the mention of his name)
I have recently aquired a large incubator to replace the little
styrofoam ones I've been using. I look foward to a fun time this year running
it.
Incidentally there some good poultry swap meets in MO. and Okla. None
of any real good in Ark that I know of. The best we have found is up in Mo.
twice a year in June And Oct. What a great time is had up there. We can'nt
take anything in there to sell but we sure have fun buying.
I hope I'm not to far off topic here. Do have a H & G question if anyone
has the answer. How can I get rid of (Permantley) dirt dobbers. A wasp like
insect that builds a mud nest in almost anything. They will flat ruin an
electric motor or anything else they get into. The Chem Cos want you to spray
them one at a time! Dumb Dumb Dumb.
Thanks for the space and your time,
Tom in Ark.
