You CAN do "in" and "out" from a user program (ring 2/3), but not anything else (DMA, IRQs). Also, a user program doing in/out do a very busy device (high throughput) is not a good idea. In the best situation, you should write a device driver to talk to the hardware, but this is hard for the first timer, and I can understand why you might opt for the user program solution. Note that the segments that do the in/out have to be marked as "IOPL" in your linker *.def file. --- Maximus/2 2.01* Origin: Sol 3/Toronto (905)858-8488 (1:259/414) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 54/54 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 SEEN-BY: 711/430 807 808 809 934 942 949 712/353 623 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 259/414 400 99 98 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 54/54 711/808 809 934 |
