Unfortunately, it came as no surprise to anyone but the Schuerholz apologists
(who think it was a great move). You also forgot they overpaid for a no-hit
shortstop, who JS has suggested will be the new leadoff guy (unless they do
something stupid like sign Otis Nixon). But the worst thing about the "Big
Cat" signing is what it does to them down the road, when the contracts of C.
Jones, Klesko and Lopez come up. Where's the money going to come from when
you're paying an old 1B with Coors-inflated numbers $8.25 million/year?
I'm still waiting for Rafael Belliard to be re-signed. After his power
explosion down the stretch, he ought to be worth at least $1 million/year.
