Barry:
BD=>Our family is getting the boat ready for spring and are looking at the
BD=>getting a small tender to tow behind our boat. Something about 8 1/2
BD=>feet long. The big decision is whether we get an inflatable or a hard
BD=>hull boat? We have a 2 hp motor. We would appreciate knowing any pros
I can only tell you what I have and why I have it -
I've got a 7'6" hard dingy with a 2hp Mariner (sometimes) on the
back. I seriously thought about an inflatable tender since I do
a lot of SCUBA diving too; but decided diving and sailing are
two separate activities. The hard tender certainly ROWS much
better than an inflatable ever could and isn't prone to damage
from the sun... but then it's not where near as stable as the
inflatable would be, either.. getting in and out "can" be a bit
tricky at times, whereas a blow-bag would be like standing and
walking around on a dock!
It was really the rowing (because I don't use the little 2hp
motor all the time) and towing that decided me on a hard dingy -
I'm lazy and didn't want to take the time to inflate/ deflate
the tender as often; but then, too, where an inflatable "CAN" be
deflated and stored, I'm stuck with tying it up to the stern or
lifting (not easy) and stowing on deck.
Like I said, I can only tell you what I have and why I have it... it
certainly isn't the only answer you'll get and it certainly isn't the
"right way to go"... but it works for me - hope that's some help to you;
Good Luck!
