Not so much... emerging technologies are what will keep this hobby
alive, so long as we have the presence of mind to utilize them in
a timely manner.  Recent history has shown us our errors I hope...

Yet the new face of Fidonet has lost some of it's charm... the local
element of community.  I'll not go on the old tirade of Pizza Hut
meetings and BBQ's, but will say that I do miss the occasional get
togethers and communal feeling.

This will depend very much on what form these grow into.  An ION with
no BBS behind it is simply a point, to many.  You are right in saying
that FidoNet = users.  How they get here isn't as important as when.
