Hi!
I just added a TV to the same room as my sound system and I'm thinking
of connecting them, though not in a Home Theater installation. I have
cable coming into a splitter that goes to the VCR/TV and to my audio
tuner. I have some old microphone cable that I'd like to use for the
interconnect to my pre-amp (about a 20' run), but in using it I'm
running into a hum from my speakers as soon as it's connected.
Disconnecting either the cable or the interconnect removes the hum.
I'm about to redo the RCA plugs on both ends on the off chance that
there's some sloppy soldering (also to shorten the existing 35' run of
cable I have).
After all this prelude, the question. The cable has 2 insulated leads
and an uninsulated lead all within foil shielding and an outer
insulator. I plan on connecting the two insulated leads to the center
plugs, the uninsulated lead to the outer shells, and the foil shielding
to the shell at the source (TV) end of the run only. Does this make
sense? Other comments or thoughts?
TIA,
Dave
