Possibly too old to become a Linux 'guru' but not too old to be
curious and enjoy new experiences. :-)

This is a Window's user short-coming. Always accessing the
computer from an administrative account that allows you to
install new software and toggle the configuration to _anything_
makes you vulnerable to attacks, not safer. 

If you are accessing with an account that does _not_ have all
those privileges then neither does anyone who hacks in while
you are online.
