subject: hpsMemory Bitmap questions

I hope someone can help me here.
I have a bitmap created in memory which I copy to my Window's presentation
space during the WM_PAINT message. No problem there. My problem is that
I'm wanting to write directly to the surface of this bitmap. It is created
using the GpiCreateBitmap() procedure, but I don't know how to obtain a
pointer to the bitmap memory.
Another question I have is in regards to the palette. I'm writing a paint
program of sorts, and control over the palette is sorely needed. I know how
to create a 256 entry palette, and even how to override the system colors so
I know that I have full control. However, is there a way to determine where
the system colors would go so that I could restrict myself to 200 or so
colors and know that the system palette would remain intact? Should I just
allocate 200 colors and let the GPI do the remapping?
Is DIVE my answer, and if so how can I get programming info on it. I'm
working with OS/2 2.11 if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Michael Duffy
