subject: Cordless From The BOOK

-> The Following is a segment from a document that I received reguarding
-> Monitoring and the law.

-> Whether you listen as a hobby, as part of your voluenteer work or in your
-> occupation, you should be aware that there are strict Federal laws
governing
-> this activity. The rules are spelled out in the Communications Privacy Act
o
-> 1934 and the electronics privacy act (ECPA) of 1986.
-> The FCC maintains a staff of investigators throughout the country, and the
-> FBI is also empowered to investigate violations and make arrest when
-> warranted. The laws provide for monetary fines and/or prison sentences of
-> as long as 10 years.

-> Reguarding Radio Transmissions that you hear, it is against the law to:

-> * Reveal to any other person, not a party to the transmissions, the
contents
-> of those transmissions (in other words, keep it to yourself).

-> * Use any information heard to aid in committing a crime.

-> * Use any information heard for personal gain.

-> Federal law makes it a crime to intentionaly intercept the following types
-> of radio transmissions:

-> * Remote Radio-TV Brodcast pickups.

-> * Scrambled, Encrypted or coded transmissions.

-> * Mobile Telephone Conversations of any type.

-> Your state or local community may have laws restricting the use of
scanners
-> under certain conditions.

-> failure to obey them could result in a monetary fine and/or having your
-> scanner confiscated.

-> ** Several states have enacted laws prohibiting the interception of
cordless
->    telephone conversations.
->
-> Note: Of The last Lines My state is not one of those !

-> The reason I posted this here is because, Just because your state has
-> regulations does not mean that cordless monitoring is against the law for
-> every one. So in a way those saying that it is against the law are right
-> if their state restricts it but wrong when mine doesent.

-> read the FCC rules or pick up a copy of Police Call by radio shack or
anothe
-> Scanner type book, They ALL clearly state the same thing.

-> Those who think I am wrong then fine that is your beleif. I however have
-> researched and found the above to be 100% correct to those who have doubts
-> I would recomend that you check with information and rules of the FCC
-> in your state, dont ask them about cordless just ask them for the
infomation

->                                 Paul.Ragsdale@shine.tfs.net

-> ... Not tonight, dear.  I have a modem.
