I know you didn't address this to me, but I will take a shot at it. If you are comparing the popularity of OS/2 to Linux, I would have to say that I don't ever remember the kind of community response to OS/2 as you would find with Linux. For one thing, there are many flavors of Linux, and there was only one flavor of OS/2. Basically, Linux offers an alternative. I use both Windows and Linux, both at home and at work. I have to say that I prefer the Linux environment over Windows. But then, I'm somewhat biased. I am a HP-UX System Administrator by trade, so I work with *NIX every day for work. One area that I've found where Linux kicks Window's ass is popups and those annoying virus thingies. I DON'T GET POPUPS, and I DON'T GET VIRUSES. I have to admit tho that I rarely do any office work, and when I do, I always use windows to do it. Working remotely with Linux is much easier too. Telnet in and boom! you have a command line connection. You can't do that with Windows. You will have to install and run a telnet server, and I don't know of a lot of windows apps that can be run on the command line. There's more, but I have a short attention span :) Gryphon, aka Darryl Perry Sysop of Cyberia BBS, Kingwood, TX. telnet://cyberia.darktech.org --- Mystic BBS v1.07.3 (Linux)* Origin: Cyberia BBS : cyberia.darktech.org : Kingwood, TX (1:106/324) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 106/324 9788 2000 633/267 |
