I think I read an article -- maybe the same one -- that said the U2's
maximum altitude is limited by its ability to turn. It actually has
to _descend_ before it can turn, because at max alt any attempt to
turn will put the outside wing into Mach buffet and the inside wing
into stall buffet.
_Not_ the best flight regime to avoid incoming missiles! Mind you,
at that altitude you do get a little warning that they are coming.
