I called Dallas Semiconductors this afternoon, and I will be getting a catalog of most of their products in addition to the spec sheets on the 1620. Supposedly, I will not need any external hardware to use the chip. There are 2 connection methods: SOIC (?) and 8-pin. Will probably use the 8-pin method, and just go with a serial port for now since it'd afford some quick results. I'm delving into a realm until now was *VASTLY* unknown to me . BTW, the device costs $5.10 per unit. I think I'll order about 4 of them in case I blow-up one (or more). Although I could have placed the order today, I want to make sure that all I have to do is "plug 'n play". Again, I sincerely appreciate all the information. You got the ball rolling...
