Hello Tom -

CA>> >OUCH!

TW> Tell me about it. One time also I had some skin removed
TW> form my knuckle by the Alternator fan. That was a major
TW> OUCH also. :-)

CA>> I was talking with a friend standing next to his pickup
CA>> truck when one fan blade flew off (at idle). It pierced
CA>> the hood so fast that the hole just appeared there like
CA>> 'magic'. The blade fell to earth we know not where. Since
CA>> that time I do not stand inline with a running fan and try
CA>> to not work on an engine while it is running if I can
CA>> avoid it.

TW> I also always tried to not stand i nline with the fan
TW> blades. I used ot maintain the came caution when flying in
TW> prop planes and NEVER took a seat alongside the engine. The
TW> same wisdon is well taken even i nJet planes. Avoide seats
TW> alongside the engine. But on the radiator fan I lost a
TW> blade on a 1963 Pontiac Tempist one time also. Fortunatly
TW> it came off while I was driving. It fairly well destroyed
TW> the battery.

That rear engined Tempest was _such_ a better car than the
Corvair but GM kept the Corvair and dumped the rear engined
Tempest. What a monumental mistake!
