I'll through my two cents in as well. 
 
As a devote TM using I have problems [still do] 
connecting the same site using 4.20 that was ok before. 
 
I have one of those thrifty zoltrix 14.4 voice fax modem 
with RPI [not RPI+] on a 486dlc w 4m 
 
Anyway I'm zeroing in trouble remote modems: 
so far its been USR sportster 14.4 and 28.8 
that give me problems with Zmodem [even difficulty 
with ymodem] 
 
Zoltrix users may want to use the S95=9 or 1,3,5 
to indentify what type of connection they are making. 
Compression gives me trouble.
