Hi Nancy,
RH> We couldn't even save any out for eating "as is", they were that ripe.
RH> Steve bought 4 at Harris Teeter last week--one was totally bad when he
RH> cut it open, next was heading toward bad. Third was good & 4th is
RH> still in the fridge. The Amish ones were so much better!
NB> Makes sense... the Amish ones were probably closer to the having been
NB> picked off the tree, and the transportation was your own... ;) Did
From the orchard to us.
NB> Steve take the bad ones back to Harris Teeter....?
No, just added them to the compost bucket.
NB> RH>> The store brand (Hanniford's) is of a decent quality; we had no
NB> qualms RH>> about buying a lot of that. Some things we had to get
NB> name brands but RH>> tried to keep that to a minimum. We went with a
NB> better grade of ground RH>> beef to avoid a lot of waste from
NB> fat--all in all, shopping the way we RH>> did was much better than
NB> the way we did it last year.
NB> NB>> And this year you had the benefit of last year's experience...
NB> :)
RH> Yes, some of the things we did this year were a direct result of what
RH> we learned--our shopping and going ahead of the rest of the team for
RH> instance. They appreciated having a meal ready for them upon arrival.
RH> (G)
NB> I'm sure they did... :) One less thing to have to think about when
NB> one is zonked from traveling... ;)
I understood that they did the last 2.5 hours with no breaks. The group
sort of stretched out, unwound, etc for about 20 minutes before we
served supper. They unwound some more by doing the clean up afterward,
before going down to Barre for maple creemees.
