Sometimes that's hard to do...but they could atleast stay true to the 
original story.
Looked what happened to the Lawnmower Man and Children of the Corn...King 
fought in court to have his name legally removed from the title of these 
movies because he felt they didn't live up to his stories.
 
And then theres that offbeat movie he did just for the heck of it because it 
might have been goofy enuff to work was Maximum Overdrive...just the basic 
plot of Trucks but it worked for me...since I knew going into the theatre 
what the basic premise was of this movie! :)
