I am a professional video producer based in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
I have lurked in this conference on and off for a couple of years,
and enjoy the chat. I have a question directed mainly at the U.S.
PRO_VIDEO conference users, but input from Canadians who have
distributed videos into the U.S. would also be welcome.
We have produced a one-hour educational video on the aboriginal
youth suicide epidemic in northern Ontario. It's based on over
50 hours of raw tape from hearings of a youth-run forum on
solutions to the suicide situation, from four different communities
in northwestern Ontario. We also included archival news footage
from Davis Inlet Labrador and Big Cove New Brunswick to put the
northwestern Ontario events into a national context.
We have sold over 400 VHS copies of this video to First Nation
organizations, social workers, educators, libraries, and counselling
organizations. It's been mostly word-of-mouth and direct fax marketing
to various fax lists we've come across.
We're looking for some organization in the United States that might
handle distribution for us. We've made some sales in Arizona, Alaska
and California but the U.S. market seems so vast, it's hard to know
how to access it.
Does anyone on this conference have leads or suggestions for video
distributors who handle "special interest" tapes like this?
