How about EMS/XMS/DPMI memory if the BBS is DOS based.

Hehe.  Try about 32MB for the OS upon startup.  My free memory with 64MB runs 
about 11MB after bootup and starting LORABBS (OS/2 version).  Start up 
in-joy, MR/2 ICE and Netscape and the amount of free physical memory is 256k.
