subject: trivial?

Hi there,
I'm a german student and I've read a lot of Stephen King's books, mainly his
recent works. I like all of his novels and stories (except of some short-
stories). I think King is a brilliant writer, especially of his
unusually ideas. But I think none of his works are unusually spooky,
splattery or genuinely scary. I guess that King is the most well-known
modern author, but IMHO he writes a little bit trivial. Since a couple
of years I'm struggling my mind with the question if King writes
absolutely trivial or just a little bit trivial. It makes me crazy.
In germany the term 'trivial' has a very negative meaning regarding
literature. It stands particularly for a stereotype structure, a low
level, and many more I can't describe in detail here.
What do you think? I'm curious about your opinions. Thanks.
cu
Joachim
