"But Jesus said unto them. A prophet is not without honour, but in his own
country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do
no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed
them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went round about
the villages, teaching."
Let's observe what is not in that passage. Note:
It doesn't say one must have faith to be healed.
Nor is there anything in there about "name it and claim it."
Nobody in that passage had an inch of faith. Note: "He could there
do no mighty work....because of their UNBELIEF."
Now what should this tell us about these faith healers like Benny Hinn, Oral
Roberts, Kenneth Copeland, John Wimber, etc.? It shows us if these people
had the gift of healing, they should be able to lay their hands on the sick
and they should be healed even in their UNBELIEF! But in order to get out of
the many failures that proves God is not working in them, they must then,
whether silently or openly, blame the person who is not healed for their
"lack of faith," or not "releasing" their faith. A person who claims to have
the "gift of healing" and shoves the "lack of faith" on a sick person should
be confronted with Mark 2:5 as well as this passage (Mark 6:5-6). In Mark
2:5 it is the faith of those who pray for the sick that gets the job done.
Notice it says nothing about the sick man having any kind of faith (see
again Mark 6:5-6! Not one ounce of faith, but yet they are healed). In this
passage Jesus only saw the faith of those who carried the sick man! So you
see, couldn't it be just a bit possible that the "lack of healing" might
have to do instead with the "lack of faith" on the part of the "faith
healer" and not the lack of faith on the part of the sick person? Today's
"faith healers" who blame your lack of healing is due to your "lack of
faith," are explained in Proverbs 25:14.
They are like clouds and wind without rain who avoid the many hospitals
where sick folks could really benefit from their gift they claim they got
from God.
If these people have the "Apostolic signs," (the signs given to the APOSTLES
in Mark 16:16 and thus, APOSTOLIC SIGNS, called the "signs of an apostle" 2
Cor. 12:12) then they should be able to heal anybody! Look at Acts 5:15,16
and you will find people were healed by Peter's shadow! Go back and read it
and note how many were healed. EVERYONE! Could you imagine God working so
powerfully in Benny Hinn that you would suddenly be cured of your sickness
just by the passing of his shadow? Wouldn't that be something? What about
Oral Roberts? If Oral has the gift of healing, what in the world was he
doing begging for money and building a hospital for sick folks???? If I had
such a great gift I would be entering hospitals instead of building one!
Since I was involved in the Charismatic movement for more than 15 years, I
know all the verses used and all the main arguments to prove Apostolic signs
are for Christians today. One of those famous passages is,
"The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these
shall he do; because I go to my Father."
Tell, me. What did the Apostles do that was greater than what Jesus did?
Did the Apostles do greater works? The apostles did just what Jesus was
able to do. There were people healed by the apostles, and Paul even raised
a person from the dead. So those faith healers who claim to have the "gift
of healing" should be able to do the same as what Jesus and the apostles did.
Jesus put the ear back on the guard in the Garden of Gethsemane. How many
"faith healers" can do that today? Jesus raised people from the dead? How
many faith healers can do that today?
As many healing meetings I have gone to, I did not see amputated parts of
bodies miraculously restored. I haven't seen a person's face eaten up with
cancer made whole. I haven't seen a man who was born blind, see. I haven't
seen anyone dead for three days suddenly arise. You may say, "But Sandy,
surely you have been to the healing services and have seen many people
healed."
I have been to many healing services, but I can honestly say I haven't seen
anyone actually healed. How does one see a backache get healed? How does
one see chronic headaches healed? How about insomnia? It seems that most
of the people in the healing lines are those with mental and spiritual
problems. "Yeah, but what about those people in the wheelchairs who haven't
walked in years, who all of a sudden run on the platform?" And I shall ask
you, Have you checked their medical records? Have you checked any medical
records of those who supposedly had illnesses and were healed?
