MG> I have met Murray. He spends about half of the year down here in
MG> Clearwater Florida, and the summer months up in cooler Canada. Very
MG> nice gentleman. I know him through the computer Club we both belong
Michael - Thanks for your kind comment. Though I haven't met
Dick Brice either, it seems we had similar career paths - WW
11 - Being lucky enough to be one out of thousands who landed an
Airline career - Flying the Line - and eventually being
sucked in to instructing others. In Air Canada (thank God)
our policy was to not have simulator only instructors. We
took our trainees through the simulator, flight training
around the patch, and then what we called Line
Indoctrination, where we took them out on the line until we
felt they were ready to cope on their own. This had the
double-edged effect of allowing them to have the continuity
of the same instructor all the way, and kept we instructors
up to speed on what was happening on the line.
Sadly, my son, who has been an Air Canada pilot since 1974
tells me that the bean counters are winning and they now
have simulator instructors who have never flown the
aircraft. Can't afford to pay real live line pilots to train
others at the going rates!
We're here for awhile longer this year - I'll try and say
hello next Tuesday.....Murray
