subject: Re: What does Fixpack 8610 do?

My Zyxel is a Prestige 650R-13 that connects to an Ethernet hub just
like the workstations do; no dialup program of any kind or special
software is required, just TCP/IP is routed to 192.168.1.1 on all machines.
The settings on the router are those given by Herbert with the exception
of RIP which is RIP-1 and that I use DHCP: Server (I don't have a static
IP address), but changing those settings does not do anything.
If the TCP/IP version were the culprit, why would a clean install of eCS
1.2 (HD formatted in the process) with TCP/IP 4.3 and nothing but
Mozilla installed show the exact same behaviour as Warp 4 with TCP/IP
4.0 after installing WR08610? And why does W98 with Mozilla work in the
same environment?
I just connected through ISDN (with ISDNPM) instead of ADSL and was able
to send mail. But this is not really something to consider: having
64kBps instead of 768 and having to pay by the minute while the ADSL is
there for a cheap monthly flat rate.
It is still unclear whether my router or the ISP is to blame. I know I
did not change anything about the router when it stopped working from
OS/2 on July 8. And the ISP tells me they didn't change anything
neither. I seem to be the only person with this problem. If I refuse to
become superstitious, I must probably assume that the ISP is not telling
me the truth or they changed something they consider unimportant because
it is for windows.
Thanks very much to everybody for the interesting contributions. One
always learns something new in those discussions.
