what I have tried with my supra express 288 is to set s191=155 prior to 
logging in to the internet.
this makes the modem less agressive on the connect side i.e. I get a 21600 
connect on my side and the ISP gives me a 28k connect. Otherwise the modem 
forces a 26400/21600 connect leaving me with a slow Inet connection..
this works for me as I do more receiving than I do transmitting.
