stupidity is not always the reason... pure and simple ignorance is one of
the most common factors...

i remember a friend came to me some years back and asked me to help him fix
his computer... i asked him what was wrong and he told me that he was
cleaning up all the old files and such that he didn't want or use and all
of a sudden, it started popping up error messages about this and that and
he ended up shutting it off... when he turned it back on, it wouldn't
boot...

when i got it up to where i could look and see what was going on, the first
thing i noticed was that the windows directory was gone... when i asked him
about it, he told me that he didn't need those files in there for his
record keeping and such ;)

TW> I DO NOT WANT PROTECTION FROM MYSELF.
TW> That destroys any learning possabilities and turns Computer
TW> usage into a Mindless Game.

that would depend on what you want to learn... if it is about computer
hardware then you're several years too late as things are much more
advanced these days than they were back in the day where one could easily
build their own addon boards ;)

if you're talking about learning the OS, then you're running the wrong
OS... linux would be much better to learn about ;)

besides, do you really want to reach into a running engine and remove the
crankshaft?? ;) ;) ;)
