RS>> No, you are assuming the 12K connects are common, they arent. They

PE>> Hmmm. Ok, but we've got a definite problem your end right? Your

PE>> how can it have negotiated 12K when I wasn't agreeing?

RS> Modems are supposed to negotiate on what speed to use, based on the
RS> quality of the line. Infact I do very occasionally see a 12K connect to
RS> City BBS which works fine, and often will step back up to 14.4K later in
 RS> the session.

RS> Presumably when I call your modem, mine believes it has negotiated a 12K
RS> and that its ok to use that speed. I can also force a 12K connect from
RS> my end and have done that successfully in the past, getting a fully

RS> I dont think they are worth worrying about too much at this stage, as I
RS> said, they are 5% of the failed connect at most. The other 95% matter
RS> much more at the moment.

Perhaps they're both problems are caused by the same thing, when is REAL bad, you get 12k connects, when is medium

bad, you get 14k connects with lots of "line noise" or
"dropouts" or "we're not really sure". You know how to
lock your end in to 12k, so can you try locking it in to only accept a 14k
connect (just to see what happens, it should at least ensure that you never
get a 12k connect). BFN.
