Hello Roy -

CA>>>>> .. DOS the Ghost in the Machine!

DD>>>> The point is Charles that DOS is no longer "the Ghost in
DD>>>> the Machine". Many modern machines have never seen it.
DD>>>> Very little will fit on a diskette any more so their use
DD>>>> is becoming far less prevelant. Many new machines don't
DD>>>> come with a floppy drive.

CA>> You always refer to "new machines". Do you not realize
CA>> that new machines do _not_ outnumber machines in the
CA>> installed base of computers out there in use today?

RJT> I wonder if a lot of folks that write some of the software
RJT> out there today even consider that...

Only if they themselves are below the curve on hardware.

RJT> Seems to me like that "need" to be right up there on the
RJT> bleeding edge is so important to some that they tend to
RJT> assume that everybody else feels the same way.

Some who use 233mhz and 450mhz machines just fake it and
pretend to be at the bleeding edge. ;-)

RJT>

DD>>>> Files are moved via networks, or those little USB memory
DD>>>> drive thingies.

CA>> No person I know in the real world has a working intranet
CA>> in their homes and no one I know in the real world owns
CA>> one of those "little USB memory drive thingies".

RJT> I've been seeing more mention of those lately in some
RJT> places.

With CDs being as inexpensive as they are I would have to have
an _ongoing_ need to move files on a daily basis to recoup the
costs of those 'thingies'. If they get to $10 or so for a
'gigger' I'll think about getting one. :-)
