> Alot has to do with your local telco lines and service area. I live in
Well, Sasktel probably is among the best in the world as far as telco line
quality goes. My ISP (which is also my phone company) is in a city over 100
miles away from me. I can consistently get 31.2 connects with their system,
100 miles away from me.
In the recent months I believe the phone company has put an internet server
in the same city as me. I know a few people who work for the phone company,
but I haven't talked to them in some time already. But lately, if I don't
limit my connects to 31.2, I get 33.6's and the throughput is shot.
I may be out in left field, but if the phone line can't support a 33.6
connect, the modem shouldn't try doing it. That's the whole reason behind
having a robust protocol as V34. It's suppose to maximize the throughput by
adapting to line conditions. On a poor line the speed is suppose to drop to
reduce retransmits. When the line clears up, it's suppose to determine if
it's good enough to shift upwards. I think the modem is at fault, because it
just seems to choke on 33.6 connections.
