4K is the next step up in the pixel resolution. While HD is 1020 X 1080 pixels
and somtime referred to as just 1080P or more commonly known as HD. HD can also
be 720 X 960 if you rmember when HD TVs first came out they were all 720 Plasma
screens, (That's where the "P" came from when the flat screens were being
introduced). The glass screens which still had the gun are interlaced, my
brother still has a 1080I TV which throws off the COX Tech because he sets the
box on 1080P and wonders why there is no picture.
4K is also known as UHD and all those new names you see in the store is 3840
X 2160 pixels. I have not heard it referred to as 2160P it is better known as
4K or UHD.
I have not seen any specs on 8K but I'll bet it will probably be 7680 X 4320
pixels if they follow their current standard of thinking. Problem is they can
only go "so far" within reason because the media like Blu-rays
are 50 GB max
and you would have limits on how large a movie could be put on a disc. Also
the cable companies and broadcast media only have so much bandwith to fit a
signal and audio they may not have the ability to to transmit an 8K signal
without compressing it to fit the bandwidh now. Cable companies are
compressing the HD signals now and that is why if you look side by side at a
cable's HD signal and the same broadcast signal the broadcast signal is
noticibly better.
We will have to see where the technology takes us.
