There is yet another pitfall:

These are unfortunately not included. I can compile the program, but
linking is somewhat more itchy. Can you provide me with these missing
externals? Or a site where I can ftp them or file request them?

BTW, it's a rather complicated program, what is wrong with:

#include 
#include 

main()
{
   ULONG Reserved=0L;              /* Reserved, must be set to zero */
   DosShutdown(Reserved);
   return 0;
}
 to close down immediately? It uses slightly less memory and is somewhat
shorter. It works fine with me.
