Sounds like we should all send polite Braille letters to
Howard Safer, Police Commissioner,
N.Y.C.P.D.
1 Police Plaza,
New York NY USA zip may be 10038
and Rudy Julianni, Mayor,
City Hall,
New York, NY USA also possibly 10038 zip but don't take my memory
as gospel on that.
If you use a guide dog, put a paw print on the letter as well as
your signature.
Actually paw prints are probably more appropriate for letters to
the Fire Department, especially if you write to one of their
Dalmations.
Interestingly the Transit Authority of N.Y.C. is introducing 11
rides for the price of 10 and at some point will have daily,
weekly and monthly passes or all the bus and train rides you can
stand for one fee.
I reada book where the T.B.T.A. of NYC had a war with the T.A.
and they built highways instead of a second avenue subway line.
Friend in New York mentioned one day that effective a few years
ago, guess who the t.b.t.a. is part of and answers to?
The Transit Authority!
In Toronto I would sometimes cross a street by going into a
subway station. Sometimes to get to the other side of the
street, I had to go through the turnstile, but since blind people
in Toronto get to ride the tranit system free, cost was not an
issue, just show pass, or more often just say hi to collector, go
down stairs and climb up on other side of tracks and head for the
exit. Don't think all the collectors know all the blind people
in the city, but they get to know the egulars.
Take care.
