Careful.  A friend from our church is a Helping 
Hands person at Wegmans. He always assumes that anyone who doesn't
acknowledge him in passing is doing so because he is.... what's the word
now-a-days - 'special'?  I've tried explaining reality to him but it
doesn't
register.

I don't think you are imposing or scary looking.  Most people just prefer
picking an empty set of seats.

On the other hand, after getting to know you, both attributes might become
apparent.
