-> THAT's fer sure! The Yellow Cheek would get to laughing and first
-> thing you know, there went those eyes! If he was sitting on your
-> shoulder it was time to guard your ear! He nibbled (VERY gently) on
-> my office managers ears all the time.
Is the office manager the person he's living with now? Must have been
in love. Fran Warwick has a cockatoo who nibbles on her ears and lays
eggs in her lap. That bird needs a mate. Last night Zigs was
singing (her most excited state), eyes pinning like mad, and before we
knew it she had assumed "the position" on her swing and began
masterbating and clucking and pinning. That bird needs a mate.
-> I've been giving this "Self awareness" test a lot of thought, and I'm
-> still on the fence. I'm pretty sure some dogs are.... I've also been
-> SURE that parrots are, (in the past) but now that I think back on it
-> I wonder if I was just projecting their idiocy back onto them.
When Nigel was very young, he was fascinated by his image in the mirror,
and tried to alternately kiss it and fight it. Now he pays almost no
attention to it. I'm sure he's learned that it's him. Ziggy still gets
freaked out by her image. I'm pretty sure that Nigel is, in fact,
smarter, but the intelligence makes him hard to keep entertained, and
hard to keep out of everything. He reminds me of a monkey. I do wish
he'd concentrate on talking like a good grey and forget the exploration.
-> SO funny sometimes, and when they're mad at you I feel strongly that
-> they personalize YOU as the object of their ire. (As opposed to just
-> being in a bitchy mood, when they hate EVERYBODY!) Ten seconds after
-> almost taking my field supervisors eye out the YC was whispering in
-> my office manager's ear about what a bastard he'd just bitten.
I know the syndrome well. Not only do they have favorite
people to persecute, but they also change their allegiances. It's a
real drag to be the beloved and then become the persecuted. :(
-> Oh oh! When my YC got in a really affectionate mood you could count
-> on him having a pinning, conniption fit in a few days. Frustration?
Probably, I'm just beginning to understand adult parrot frustration.
Mine are obviously at that stage now, and they seem to think it's
spring. Lotsa grooming and feeding and dominance games going over
there. I sure hope Zigs doesn't start laying infertile eggs.
