No, the default is AT*E9, which allows V42bis.  Last week was AT*E7, which
had no phase detection, and no V42bis.  This week was AT*E5, which has
phase detection, but no V42bis.

BTW, there has only ever been one occasion where your morning call between
me calling Dave and you calling me had someone else get in between, which
was on 8th June when Brenton snuck in 20 minutes before you!  BFN.
